Since Trump had inadequate support from the senate and no support from the house, his ONLY option (I have written this many times; people are terrified of the possible results - "better the devil you know") was to veto continuing resolutions. Theoretically, much of government would shut down. Before you soil your pants, consider how much such a shutdown would impact your day-to-day movement. Would it at all? As he vetoed the resolution he would say, “I expect the republicans, democrats and myself to negotiate every item in my agenda. The government will remain shutdown until we have done so. There will be no retroactive pay for government employees.” (If Taco Bell shuts down for two weeks, the employees do not get back pay. Government employees are no more entitled to back pay than a Taco Bell employee). This action would have hurt democrats more than republicans. Recognizing that federal employees are scattered over all 50 states and a majority of whom would vote democrat, it is astounding 97% of D.C. and 70% of Fairfax County, VA (across the Potomac) voted for Clinton in 2016 and those employees, knowing they had no leverage with Trump anyway, would have implored their democrat representatives to get to the negotiating table.
RiNo’s, with democrats, may have overridden Trump’s veto of the continuing resolution but Trump could have looked at himself in the mirror and said “I used every tool I had.” To allow government to function in clear contempt of the population is appalling. Trump was too cowardly to take that position. Or he accepted ill-advised advice that it was more important to preserve the party than to act in the best interests of the public. If he was concerned with the down-ballot in the 2020 election, I get it, but his job was to manage the country, not preserve the republican party.
So, he failed to use the ONLY tool I believe he had in this tool box.
HOW MIGHT HE HAVE GAINED MORE PUBLIC SUPPORT
Okay, I’m older; quite alive and kicking, though not old enough to remember FDR, who died before I was born, but I believe FDR employed an exceptionally simple tool to calm a Republic concerned about WWII...the “fireside chat.”
I liked Trump’s bluster. The Left, the bedrock of the democratic party is abominable and stops at nothing to work against a capitalistic society cemented (at one time) in personal freedom and responsibility. Trump took that on. I never tired of his tirades. He expressed anger that I and many millions of voters felt but who had no channel to express. But, other than to his diehard supporters, I don’t think his tirades were effective. I know my wife does not think they were effective (she and I take turns ranting over Trump’s performance, generally on the same “side”). Every week, Trump, in a hate-free setting, with a different cabinet member, should have conducted video chats about a topic of the week and perhaps his and the guest secretary’s success over the previous week or how congress stifled their efforts. No raised voices; no name calling. Simply a discussion, not subject to CNN’s or MSNBC’s editing, of the concerns and successes he and the named cabinet secretary discussed with the public.
I repeat, have no issue with his tirades on Twitter. The “high road,” the “nice guy” are leading the lemming to ruin. I no longer think being the “nice guy” accomplishes anything but in Trump’s position he had to temper his tirades...again, not for me, but for a necessary portion of the electorate. In a political environment as divided and acrid as we now endure I do believe the gloves must come off. But, be careful alienating moderates who agree with the agenda but appreciate civility.
TRUMP ENDURING IMPEACHMENT
The unrelenting efforts of the left to embarrass Trump, in every way possible including impeachment, are abhorrent. These malevolent fools avoided conducting the country’s business (thus my reasoning for shutting down the government above) for four years, and even now that Trump is out of office they continue to impugn his legacy wasting extraordinary taxpayer money. I cannot fathom these people and I believe, deeply, that we would be much better with no federal government than one that spends 5 years on exercising hatred at taxpayer expense. For four years radical blacks and their marxist supporters have worked to tear down our country. Portland, OR, Milwaukee, WI, Detroit, MI, Kenosha, WI, Seattle, WA, Minneapolis, MN, Chicago, IL are examples. Marxist city politicians hired private body guards at taxpayer expense to protect them, their businesses and families and then sat back while their cities burned. Kamala Harris gave to ANTIFA/BLM members to make bail. In the meantime, cowardly businesses (Discover Card; GoFundME, two of which I am personally aware) stopped funding the defense of Kyle Rittenhouse who shot BLM members in Kenosha, WI. In other words, any method to deprive the hated of a fair trial. The black prosecutor in Saint Louis, MO, tried to prosecute (met her match, fortunately) a white couple who defended THEIR property from black and ANTIFA mobsters.
The Dems, in unmitigated hatred of Trump, made the claim that Trump incited the D.C. “insurrection” (the media calls BLM burning a WalMart a “peaceful protest,” and the Capital protest an “insurrection,”) and hoped to nail trump on insurrection and treason. The house was more than willing but nauseating is that 7 republicans in the senate voted to convict.

I am not a constitutional lawyer but I interpret this amendment to includes the concept that “equal protection” implies that criminal prosecutions also must be blind to all consideration other than the facts. We had Maxine Waters imploring her followers to fight Trump supporters in the streets. We had black panthers carrying rifles near a voting precinct in Philadelphia, when Clinton was elected; we have democrats encouraging BLM/ANTIFA destruction. Joe Biden wanted to take Trump “out behind the woodshed.” Yet it is Trump who is the traitor and instigator of violence? If I were a Republican senator, (not a chance; I am principled) before the vote I would state for the record that I wanted documentation of prosecution, if any, of the people I mention below. Even if Trump were responsible for the “insurrection” which it was proven by video he was not, I would not vote to convict in the absence of clear evidence that the marxists like Harris, Waters, Biden, Madonna AOC, were prosecuted SIMULTANEOUSLY. Wrongdoing must be punished via any legitimate avenue but that only the Right was to be punished does not pass the Fourteenth amendment.
Bottom line is the election of 2020 was Trump’s to lose; he did just that but the failure of government to conduct the country’s business over the last four years belongs to Trump, congress and the courts alike and impeachment efforts accomplished absolutely nothing for this country. Even if he had been impeached and convicted; the seven senators who voted to convict are disgusting individuals. I hope but don’t count on a depraved press going after Harris/Biden for the next four years.
