Trump just did not get it done, pandered to party not the citizens
I voted for Trump in 2016, enthusiastically. I still have the “bucket of deplorables” T-shirt. Trump let me down badly. He was super with respect to calling bullshit, just that. He pissed off foreign governments chiefly because he really did place America first which meant Europe no longer had the American teat from which to feed. He freed up energy, which Biden is using to stymie all personal and business use of fossil fuel…while the blue states are giving my money to welfare recipients so they are less affected by inflation and high energy prices. What Trump did not do, and thus I did not vote for him in 2020 (like a “red” vote is worth anything in NY anyway) because he fell seriously short on aggressive protection of Amendments 1 & 2. I wrote him about “2” and received no reply which means he was intimidated by the gun control lobby, which we all know exists only “to protect the children.”
The purely evil and demonic, marxist democrats tied up much of Trump’s four years with faux scandals and hate-of-the-day. Trump had only one weapon which he refused to use, the “veto.” Congress has been unable to produce a budget, since, I think, even pre-Obama so Congress gives the president a “continuing resolution” which means the government is funded for another 3 months and all those responsible can hide, I mean, hey, we must keep the government functioning and we can worry about philosophical differences later. Those philosophical differences never are debated publicly.
Trump could have vetoed those. In fact after he signed one of them he said he would not sign another one, then he did.
What is the fallout of his veto? His veto could have been overridden. In which case he could look at himself in the mirror and say he used every tool possible to push his agenda, instead of Chuck Schumer’s and Nancy Pelosi’s. He could be very public about that. At that point he had license to continuously rail against the Democrat agenda. Or, he might not have been overridden, non-essential government services would be shut down indefinitely. Government employees, generally Democrat, (so no votes to lose) would have lost pay (no back pay allowed in subsequent negotiations; when a Wendy’s has a fire, the employees do not get paid while the franchise owner re-builds.) I believe a limited Federal government is far preferable to an oppressive, Marxist government. It is possible that congressional republicans urged him not to do that but 20/20 hindsight shows us the Republicans did not move the agenda to the right so what did Trump supporters have to lose?
The last possibility is that Trump signs the interim budget and provides a list to the Democrats of all policy items that will be discussed and solved before the next interim budget is presented. If the Dems do not come to the table, in open session, Trump would not sign the next continuing resolution.
The power of the veto is the only power he had and he simply would not use it. In that respect he did a disservice to this country and I will not vote for him if he runs again. Yes, he did much and Biden, et al are truly horrible people but I will not vote for “the lesser of evils.”
